19 Jul 2018 ZENBER Architecten and IAA Architecten awarded contract to redevelop Lounge 1 Schiphol
It is Schiphol’s ambition to become ‘Europe’s Preferred Airport’. To achieve this, Royal Schiphol Group is not only working on its day-to-day operations, but also on increasing capacity and improving quality in the future. This includes renovating, revamping and extending the current Lounge 1. More room must be created to provide smoother throughput, better service and extra facilities.
ZENBER Architecten and IAA Architecten have been awarded the interior architecture contract for redeveloping Lounge 1 Schiphol.
The number of passengers passing through Schiphol is rising every year. Schiphol wants to find an efficient, sustainable way of catering to this continuing growth, and hopes that redeveloping Lounge 1 will increase capacity and improve quality within the contours of the current complex. The project area of Lounge 1 covers around 12,500 m2. The wishes and experiences of passengers are leading in the redevelopment plans and human perception is of the essence. Passengers must feel comfortable from the moment they arrive at Schiphol until the moment they leave the gate. But the Lounge must also provide an exciting experience, one that inspires and challenges people to discover why Schiphol is so different from all the other airports.
It is now up to ZENBER and IAA to design an innovative, inspirational Lounge for this commission. A very special commission and an exciting challenge!
