100% circular and inspiring work environment with sustainable materials
The task
Oikocredit, one of the largest social investors in microcredit, wanted to transform their headquarters into a flexible, future-proof work environment. The goal was to create a work environment that promotes collaboration, sustainability and well-being, and reflects Oikocredit's innovative and social corporate culture. The project had to be in line with the principles of The New Way of Working, which focuses on smart, multifunctional use of space and a dynamic design.
“A dynamic work café as a meeting place for collaboration and inspiration.”
About this project
ZENBER Architects designed a renewed work environment for Oikocredit headquarters, with revitalizations on the ground and top floors. The design focuses on efficient use of space, with more functionality on a smaller floor space. The work environment supports collaboration, innovation and transformation, and highlights Oikocredit's transition to an inspiring and entrepreneurial organization.
Hospitable work café and dynamic heart
The entrance area has a hospitable reception desk and a multifunctional work café with a prominent coffee bar. Staff are trained as baristas and can welcome colleagues and visitors alike with a perfect cappuccino. The ground floor acts as a dynamic heart where presentations, meetings and lunch take place. Communication zones and co-work spaces have been set up around the work café, which promote encounters and knowledge sharing.
Greenhouse and concentration workplaces
In the quiet zones, there are concentration areas and the 'Greenhouse' — a greenhouse with many plants, visually linked to the outdoor garden. This space serves as a library and a quiet area. On the top floor, quiet workplaces and co-working environments are combined with meeting spaces and a central work café, which forms the heart of the floor.
“The Greenhouse brings peace and nature to the work environment.”

Sustainable design
Sustainability is at the heart of the design. Glass walls, doors and furniture have been reused and new materials are circular and come from responsibly certified forestry. Rich daylight combined with 100% LED lighting contributes to an energy-efficient work environment.
