Vitalizing work environment in a sustainable building
The task
Navigant, an American business service provider specializing in energy and sustainability, decided to settle in the sustainable World Trade Center in Utrecht after the takeover of the Dutch Ecofys. Located on the 15th floor, this location offers inspiring views and a central location next to Central Station. ZENBER Architects was commissioned to design a work environment that promotes vitality, sustainability and collaboration, with respect for architecture and in line with Navigant's vision of a sustainable future.
“A workplace that balances dynamism and focus.”
About this project
The work environment is designed to facilitate collaboration, encounter and focus. The design is divided into two zones: a dynamic bustling area and a quiet work zone. The central work café is the heart of the floor, with a large bar, hanging gardens and flexible seating. It is a meeting place where employees come together for brainstorming sessions or stand-up meetings, made possible by the grandstand with a view of the city.
Quiet work area and natural light
The quiet zone offers concentration workstations and Skype rooms with acoustic felt walls. The open floor plan is interspersed with private meeting places, so that employees can choose a workplace that suits their needs. The design makes optimal use of natural light, transparency and sight lines, which not only strengthens the connection between employees but also makes the impressive surroundings visible.
Facility core with a warm atmosphere
The facility core of the building has been adapted to include supporting functions such as pantries, archive and storage areas, lockers and Skype rooms. The core has solid oak slats, which gives a warm appearance, and a flared awning that matches the dynamic façade of the WTC.
“Green and sustainability are at the heart of the design.”
