The task

The Medical Spectrum Twente (MST) strives for an interior that contributes to the well-being of patients, visitors and employees. The goal was to create a healing environment in which natural elements, peace and balance are central. This had to be felt in the design and material choices, while the design encourages encounter, movement and vitality.

The design focused not only on the physical environment, but also on the mental and emotional well-being of users. Natural elements and a humane approach were supposed to provide comfort, attention and an environment that contributes to recovery.

A spacious waiting area with curved green benches, large windows and plants. In the background, there is a counter and signage against white walls.
A bright waiting area with a wife and three children; the children sit on a bench and eat something. A wide white staircase is visible on the right.
A spacious atrium with a central counter and round ceiling windows. On the right, there is a digital information column and a store with colorful products.
“Nature as inspiration for rest and recovery.”
An atrium with a glass roof and colorful hanging decorations. A man pushes a woman in a wheelchair around a corner with balloons in a vase.

A modern hospital room with a bed, green chair and colorful curtains. A window overlooks a courtyard with white walls and wooden frames.

About this project

Natural inspiration

Natural elements such as green, light and organic shapes are integrated into the interior design. The use of color and design are inspired by rhythms and structures found in nature. This provides an environment that exudes peace and balance and at the same time invites interaction and movement. Strategically placed green areas, such as plant walls, contribute to a healthy indoor climate and a visual connection with nature.

Spaces for relaxation and interaction

The design encourages social interaction and movement with open passageways and inviting meeting places. At the same time, relaxation and work spaces have been designed to promote employee vitality and productivity. By carefully combining zones for work, relaxation and interaction, a versatile and inviting environment is created.
